A man is in a critical condition after being bitten by a shark on Friday morning in the state’s north.

NSW Ambulance were called to Lighthouse Beach in Port Macquarie following reports of a shark attack about 10am.

Paramedics treated a 44-year-old man who had injuries to his lower and upper leg.

He was transported to Port Macquarie Base Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
