Isn’t the better question whether it remains appropriate to permit a player to continue playing through the presumed agony of such an injury as opposed to celebrating the player’s bravery.

In what other workplace scenario involving any degree of physical exertion and harsh contact with other humans would it be acceptable, let alone praised, that an employee worked on with a fractured face?
