“I always had belief in myself. There were probably a couple of little doubts early on with a big injury to my foot where I missed a full preseason and season, so there were some little doubts,” Payne said.
“It was obviously unfortunate for Marcus, he’s been such a great asset for the team over the years.
“It opened the door up for me and I feel like I’ve taken that opportunity with both hands and I feel like I’ve been able to do a pretty decent job this season.”
